What is a DOT Medical certification ?

Much like a Sports Physical,  A DOT physical is a comprehensive medical exam required for commercial drivers to ensure they are healthy enough to operate a vehicle safely. It involves a review of the driver's health history, physical measurements, and various physical assessments. The examiner will check vital signs, vision, hearing, and perform a general physical assessment, including checking the heart, lungs, abdomen, and extremities. A urinalysis is also part of the exam

Where can you get your Exam?

You may visit any doctor who performs DOT physical exams.
Please note that most insurance plans do not cover this exam, so it’s worth comparing prices, which can range from $90 to $300.

If you’re not sure where to start, you can find a Certified Medical Examiner here.

Your Medical certification will expire

It is essential for drivers to understand that a medical exam can be valid for up to 24 months, depending their health condition. It is the driver's responsibility to obtain a new card before the expiration of the current one. Staying compliant not only ensures safety the road but also helps avoid downgrading of your CDL to back to a operators license. Always prioritize your health and keep your documentation up to date.
